Attended Funeral

The aim of the Competition and Markets Authority Funeral Markets Order 2021 is to make it easier for customers to access the prices of funeral directors and crematorium operators and to help increase customers’ awareness of the total cost of the services they may require.

These provisions are also intended to help customers to compare the prices and services of different funeral directors and crematorium operators so that they can assess what best suits their needs and budget.

The criteria for the Attended Funeral:

Taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements.
Collecting and transporting the deceased person from the place of death (normally within 15 miles of the funeral director’s premises) into the funeral director’s care.
Care of the deceased person before the funeral in appropriate facilities.
Providing a suitable coffin.
Viewing of the deceased person for family and friends, by appointment with the Funeral Director.
Provision of a hearse or other appropriate vehicle to take the deceased person direct to the agreed cemetery or crematorium (normally within 20 miles of the funeral director’s premises) at a date and time agreed between the customer and funeral director.

What is the size of any upfront deposit required?

You must pay a deposit to the value of the disbursement fees prior to the funeral, unless an unattended service is arranged which must be paid in full at time of arrangement.

When must I pay the upfront deposit?

Accounts are due for payment within 30 days of our invoice. The funeral account invoice shall be raised a week after the provision of the service. The account is due regardless of any application for a DWP Funeral Grant, subject to probate or the deceased estate being handled by a Solicitor or Third Party, unless otherwise agreed by us in writing.

How long will I have to pay the final balance?

What are my options for paying the deposit and final balance?

Cash, Debit/Credit card, Cheque or BACS payment.

Will any additional charges apply is I don’t pay the bill on time?

If you fail to pay us in full on the due date, we may charge you interest; • At a rate of 2% per month or part month on the outstanding account balance. • Compounded on the first day of each month; and • Before and after any judgment (unless a court orders otherwise). We may recover the cost of taking legal action to make you pay.

If I change my mind after engaging you as my funeral director, will you charge me (and if so, how much)?

You will be invoiced for all third-party charges which we have paid or are committed to. You will also have to pay our charges and expenses according to the scale set out; Within 2 days of service – 100% of fees payable Within 1 week of service – 80% of fees payable Within 2 weeks of service – 100% of fees payable Funeral Fleet cancellation fee, as stated on price list.
