Gordon Fletcher & Sons Funeral Directors has been serving the communities of County Durham since 1938, when the business was established at its present main office on Charles Street, Spennymoor. Founded by Thomas Atkinson Fletcher, the firm was run for many years by Gordon Fletcher before passing to his sons, Peter and Colin Fletcher, who now serve as business principals. The Spennymoor funeral home has undergone extensive refurbishment over the years to ensure families receive care in a fitting environment.
As part of Funeral Partners Limited, the team at Gordon Fletcher & Sons is committed to providing tailored funerals that reflect the unique life of each loved one. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and can visit families at home to discuss arrangements. Their fleet includes luxury Mercedes Benz hearses and limousines, as well as a fully restored 1955 Austin FX3 vintage hearse — one of only three known to exist in the country and the only one to have undergone a full restoration.
The range of services offered includes cremations, burials, green and woodland funerals, unattended cremations, and repatriation. Additional support includes memorial masonry, floral tributes, orders of service, online funeral notices, and prepaid funeral plans through Choice. From the moment we contacted Gordon Fletcher & Sons, we knew my late uncle’s care and funeral were in very good hands. Adam was truly exceptional — we have nothing but praise for his compassion, professionalism, and thoughtfulness. We went through a very difficult and prolonged period trying to get my uncle’s death certificate processed by the hospital, and Adam was incredibly supportive throughout. Despite it not strictly being part of his role, he went above and beyond to help us navigate the situation, which meant a great deal to our family. The Chapel of Rest is beautiful and welcoming, offering comfort during such a sad time.
