Hedley Jackson Funeral Directors is a family-owned and independently run funeral business based in Shaw, Oldham, serving the communities of Shaw, Oldham, Rochdale, Saddleworth and surrounding areas since 1958. The business was founded by Joyce and Hedley Jackson — Hedley originally a joiner who had worked for a local undertaker, and Joyce who was one of the first qualified female funeral directors in Northern England. Operating from their current premises at 48-52 Rochdale Road, Shaw — a site that Hedley developed himself following a compulsory purchase in 1968 — the business has remained in the family for three generations.
In 1996, Hedley and Joyce's daughter Debbie and her husband Ken took over the running of the firm, and their children Sally and Sam have since joined the business, both holding their NAFD Diplomas. The team is proud to have won the Pride in Oldham Business Award in 2005 and to be members of both the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the British Institute of Funeral Directors (BIFD).
Hedley Jackson offers a comprehensive range of funeral services, including religious and non-religious funerals, woodland and green burials, horse-drawn hearses, pre-paid funeral plans, and private chapel and rest room facilities. Their fully air-conditioned premises and modern vehicle fleet reflect their commitment to the highest standards of care, with support available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"They were available to answer my questions any time and nothing was too much trouble. I cannot thank the Hedley Jackson family enough for the empathy and kindness shown to our family following the death of my husband."
— A Leach
"They turned out in the middle of the night and then did a home visit to accommodate family members. On the day were supportive to the end. Faultless and highly recommended."
— Dean Burgess
"The kindness, compassion, professionalism and even humour where appropriate, made a sad and stressful time easier to bear."
— Andrea Chadderton-Mulrooney
"They were beyond fantastic. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they really, really, took good care of our mother. Choose this company, they helped me and my family so much and we are forever grateful."
— Jonathan Ciantar
"I visited my husband in the chapel and he looked just like himself. It was a comforting experience. Sally handled every aspect of the funeral with sensitivity."
— A Leach (about Sally)
"Debbie and her team were such a reassuring presence on the day. She looked after my children and me, with the care and kindness of a mum. I can't explain what this meant, having lost my own incredible mum 6 months earlier."
