Howard Chadwick Funeral Service has been proudly serving the Wallingford area and the surrounding communities of South Oxfordshire and Berkshire since its establishment in 1991. The business was originally founded by Howard Chadwick, his wife Sandra, and their nephew Alistair Cox, all of whom had worked in various areas of the funeral profession before opening their own service. In the early days, funeral arrangements were made by home visits or at Howard and Sandra's home, before the team took over the Wallingford Cemetery Chapel in 1994. In 2008, they moved to purpose-built premises at 33 Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford — formerly the site of the old French Gardens — which was designed by the team themselves.
Over the years, the business has grown to include several family members: Neil (Alistair's father) joined in 2001, Ryan in 2014, Ashley (Alistair's twin brother) in 2017, and Thomas (Alistair's son) in 2024. That same year, Howard Chadwick Funeral Service became part of Funeral Partners Ltd. The team is experienced in arranging funerals for all religions and beliefs, and can make arrangements for the transport of the deceased to and from abroad. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and pride themselves on providing a personal, compassionate, and professional service at what can be a very difficult time.
"Ryan and Tom looked after us before and during the service, collecting us from our house, taking us to the service and then on to the wake. They ensured that every detail ran smoothly with an unhurried and caring approach — we were very impressed and would recommend this firm most highly."
— Susan Twitchett (about Ashley)
"On the day Mum died they went above and beyond to show care and reassurance to us. The planning of the funeral was so much easier than we thought it would be with their guidance — we were dreading it. I can't recommend them highly enough."
— joanna grieve
"All our requests were carefully considered, no matter how small, and every detail was thoughtfully arranged. On the day of the funeral itself, everything ran perfectly and seamlessly, allowing our family to focus entirely on remembering and celebrating our Mother's life."
— Alex Ritz
"Organising the repatriation of our Mum and her funeral in Oxfordshire remotely from Scotland seemed an overwhelming task. However, Chadwick's gently and expertly guided us through the entire process with professionalism and empathy — with exceptional compassion and respectful care of Mum and her family during this most difficult of times."
— Heather Harris (about Alistair)
"Circumstances for our funeral changed at the last minute and we even had a call from Alistair over the weekend to ensure that we were reassured that everything was in place for the funeral on a Monday morning — this was a great relief to us, highlighting their empathy and thoughtfulness."
— Louisa Niland (about Alistair)
"Even when the day became too much, they quietly checked that we were okay, with a hand on my shoulder and a reassuring smile. Eight years ago they supported us when my dad passed away — and one phone call was all it took for Ashley and the team to take over again. Knowing we could completely trust them made everything so much easier."
— Rich Ferriman (about Ashley)

We have used Chadwick’s for our family funerals for years and mum wanted us to use them for her funeral too. They are always so respectful, helpful and compassionate and this time was no different. You need people you can trust at a difficult time like this as it makes the practical things so much easier to deal with. Thank you again Chadwick’s for helping us at this difficult time.

Eight years ago, the team at Chadwick’s supported our family when my dad passed away. They listened to every wish and made sure everything was carried out exactly as we wanted. On Thursday, sadly, we needed them again for my mum. One phone call and Ashley and the team took over. This is an incredibly difficult time for any family, but knowing we could completely trust the Chadwick’s team made everything so much easier. They listen, they care and they act with complete professionalism. Even when the day became too much, they quietly checked that we were okay, with a hand on my shoulder and a reassuring smile. Thank you to Ashley, Ryan, Emily and the entire team.

Chadwicks were recommended to me by a friend and I’m so glad she did, from start to finish they have been exemplary. The professionalism, support and care they have shown to us as a family since our beloved Mum died has been wonderful. On the day Mum died they went above and beyond to show care and reassurance to us. The planning of the funeral was so much easier than we thought it would be with their guidance ( we were dreading it). On the day of the funeral the staff were professional, supportive and caring, I can’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you.

I have known Chadwick's for years so when my Mum died at Benson Care Home they were the people we chose to look after her. From the moment they came to the care home to the moment they left us after the funeral at her home church in Middlesex they were amazing! We may be winning a competition for the number of last minute changes but they took it all in their stride! Thank you all!

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Howard Chadwick Funeral Service for the exceptional care and support they provided following the passing of our Mother. During such a difficult time, every member of staff showed genuine kindness, empathy, and professionalism throughout the entire process. From our very first meeting, we felt reassured that everything would be handled with great care and attention. Their knowledgeable guidance helped us navigate every decision with confidence, and they were always patient, compassionate, and respectful of our wishes. All our requests were carefully considered, no matter how small, and every detail was thoughtfully arranged. On the day of the funeral itself, everything ran perfectly and seamlessly, allowing our family to focus entirely on remembering and celebrating our Mother’s life. We are deeply grateful for the outstanding service we received and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone seeking compassionate and professional funeral care. Thank you - you all did real good! 💕🙏
