McKiernan & Sons are independent family funeral directors situated in Kilrea, serving Kilrea, Coleraine, and the surrounding local communities for over 130 years. The business was originally established on 25th February 1882 as Mooney & McKiernan, making it the longest established business in Kilrea. Today it is owned and managed by Michael McKiernan, supported by his wife Eily and their two sons Gregory and Michael-óg, all of whom are actively involved in the family business.
In the late 1990s, an extensive renovation was undertaken to transform the existing premises into a dedicated Funeral Home, providing families with the facility of having a traditional wake in restful and peaceful surroundings. McKiernan & Sons are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and also offer a professional repatriation service.
McKiernan & Sons are proud members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the British Institute of Embalmers (BIE), both of which require high professional standards and adherence to a strict Code of Practice. Eily and Michael-óg hold their Diploma in Funeral Directing from the NAFD, and Eily is also a trained CRUSE bereavement counsellor, ensuring compassionate and expert care for every family they serve.
