Mums direct cremation paid for in advance around 2 years ago after my dad passed away. When mum sadly passed away on bonfire night it took 6 days to collect her from the hospital morgue and take her into their care. I then went into finalise the paperwork and whilst there they asked about what I would like done with her nose stud. Taken a back and shaking I was like what nose stud have you got the correct body because she has never had a nose piercing which made me feel it was necessary to see her in the chapel of rest something I didn't want to do because I'd rather have remembered her the way she was. Thankfully it was my mum and not some random. Mistake with the paperwork. Then on the morning of her cremation I went to the crematorium to give my mum a final nod on her arrival and was disturbed to see that she was taken in a private ambulance and not the hearse that was on the plan and all the paperwork when the plan was taken out. This was very upsetting and added onto what was already and emotional day, really not acceptable. Apparently they stopped using the hearse for direct cremation 4 months after my mum took out her plan. I now feel that I have let my mum down as she didn't get what she wanted and indeed paid for. I have all the paperwork as evidence. On top of that when arranging the funeral after my mum passed I was advised to claim the cost of the funeral back from the dwp as I am on eligible benefits. I said no because it was prepaid and it was one last thing she did for herself before she went when she started to deteriorate health wise. They then tried to encourage me to do the claim. Incite me to commit fraud. I stuck to my guns and said NO. If anyone else has a prepaid plan and is reading this review, I cannot emphasise enough to check your paperwork and ensure your family is aware whats included in your plan and although it's a direct cremation get at least 1 member of your family to go along to the crematorium on the day and time of your cremation to ensure you've got what was expected and paid for. If you haven't got a prepaid plan or you're a family member arranging a funeral and considering using this company, think again and avoid at all costs.

We were treated professionally with compassion and friendliness by everyone at Scotmid, principally Janice. Everything was explained clearly to us, communication was excellent and the entire funeral went without a hitch. Very good service.
