Alex Willis Funeral Home is a family-run funeral business with over 140 years of experience serving the Morecambe, Heysham, and Lancaster communities. Founded in 1881 by John Thomas Willis, the firm has a rich history rooted in the local area, evolving over generations to become one of the region's most trusted and respected funeral service providers. The business is currently operated by Stewart McVernon and his two sons, Jon and David, continuing a proud family tradition that has spanned multiple generations.
Based at Hunters Lodge on Middleton Road in Heysham, the purpose-built funeral home features private chapels, a main chapel seating up to 40 people, a mortuary, and garages for their fleet of vehicles. As members of the National Association of Funeral Directors, Alex Willis Funeral Home is committed to the highest standards of care and professionalism. They offer a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, supporting families through every step of the funeral arrangement process.
Whether families require a traditional religious service, a non-religious ceremony, a burial, or cremation, the team provides compassionate, personalised guidance. The firm also offers funeral plans in partnership with Golden Charter, and has recently undergone a full refurbishment to further enhance the personal service that has been its hallmark throughout its long history.
"David went above and beyond to ensure the service was everything my sister and I wanted. He was thoughtful and considerate and kept us updated throughout the process."
— sarah gallagher (about David)
"Jon was very helpful and caring from start to finish with my son's funeral service. The same care and compassion was also given to my parents who I lost 5 days apart."
— Rose Hughes (about Jon)
"John literally went the extra mile(s) for us to help with a tricky funeral request and their warmth, understanding and professionalism is the best I've ever experienced. I've used Alex Willis for three relatives' funerals now and would highly recommend them every time."
— Xander Wood (about John)
"From calling them they arrived within the hour led by David. From that point I received impeccable service, nothing was too much trouble, he was patient and totally professional. He guided us every step of the way. My husband Billy was treated with care and respect and his day was sad but special — they delivered exactly what I asked for."
— Sharon Ainsworth McKinlay (about David)
