Attended Funeral

The aim of the Competition and Markets Authority Funeral Markets Order 2021 is to make it easier for customers to access the prices of funeral directors and crematorium operators and to help increase customers’ awareness of the total cost of the services they may require.

These provisions are also intended to help customers to compare the prices and services of different funeral directors and crematorium operators so that they can assess what best suits their needs and budget.

The criteria for the Attended Funeral:

Taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements.
Collecting and transporting the deceased person from the place of death (normally within 15 miles of the funeral director’s premises) into the funeral director’s care.
Care of the deceased person before the funeral in appropriate facilities.
Providing a suitable coffin.
Viewing of the deceased person for family and friends, by appointment with the Funeral Director.
Provision of a hearse or other appropriate vehicle to take the deceased person direct to the agreed cemetery or crematorium (normally within 20 miles of the funeral director’s premises) at a date and time agreed between the customer and funeral director.

What is the size of any upfront deposit required?

For the Unattended and Attended Funeral, we ask for the cost to be paid up front. For The Barsby & Bespoke Service, we ask for either the disbursements to be paid up front or an invoice in full.

When must I pay the upfront deposit?

Up to 3 days before the funeral service.

How long will I have to pay the final balance?

14 days

What are my options for paying the deposit and final balance?

Debit or Credit Card, Bank Transfer (BACS), Cash or Cheque

Will any additional charges apply is I don’t pay the bill on time?

We do everything we can to never charge interest. We ask for honesty and transparency from you, if you are going to struggle to pay the funeral account. Where there is no communication or attempt to pay the invoice, an interest charge of 1.5% above the base rate will be charge from the due date until the payment date.

If I change my mind after engaging you as my funeral director, will you charge me (and if so, how much)?

We will only charge a fee if we have carried out a service for you.
