Stephen and Philip Painter Independent Family Funeral Directors is a proudly independent, family-run funeral business based in Acocks Green, Birmingham. As the only funeral directors in Birmingham and Solihull owned and operated by the Painter family, Stephen and Philip represent the fourth and fifth generations of a family with over a century of association with the funeral profession in the area. Together, they bring more than 50 years of combined experience, offering a dignified and deeply personal service tailored to reflect each family's individual wishes.
The business is rooted in a tradition of trust and professionalism. Stephen Painter has served the local community for over 35 years and has held prestigious roles including President of the Birmingham Funeral Directors Guild and the National Association of Funeral Directors Midland Division. Philip joined the business in 2000, continuing the family legacy with the same commitment to compassionate, personal care.
Operating from their office at 213 Yardley Road, Acocks Green, the team provides a comprehensive range of funeral services, including traditional and simple funeral packages, pre-paid funeral plans, home visits, and viewings at their private chapel of rest. They are proud members of both the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) and the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), upholding the highest professional standards. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"Victoria helped to organise my sisters funeral and her advice and kindness enabled it to be the most beautiful service. I can't thank you enough."
— Courtney Smart (about Victoria)
"The support and guidance I received from Victoria and the team whilst arranging my dads funeral was beyond exceptional. I knew my dad was in safe hands from the very start. All arrangements were carried out with dignity, respect and kindness throughout."
— Soy Candles by Sonjha (about Victoria)
"Very shortly after the passing of my dear mother I also lost my father — without hesitation I engaged the services of Stephen and his team with the confidence and knowledge that again they would ensure all of our needs were met. We were able to say goodbye complete, knowing that we had done everything we needed."
— Prad (about Stephen)
"Their care of the Newton, Rutter and Blundell families was exemplary, respectful and caring and there were times when they went above and beyond what was expected. Even at such a sad and difficult time all the family and friends of Barbara commented on how smoothly and well the funeral was conducted, ensuring a peaceful rounding-off of Barbara's amazing life."
— Alison Blundell (about Victoria)
"I thank Phillip Painter for helping me where I was completely at a loss. If there was more than 5 stars on this chart I would give it to them. I will never forget what you have done!"
— Lawrence Waddington (about Philip Painter)
"From the evening Phil and Kevin collected Margaret from home, she was treated with utmost dignity and respect, and we were reassured she was in the safest hands we could wish for. Every single member of staff I have met was absolutely professional, but still with the warmth and understanding that a smaller family run company can provide."
— Eileen Tracey (about Phil)
